Arkansas Student Congress 2014 Dates:
November 9-11, 2014 @ Little Rock
Registration & Bills due by September 26, 2014 to ACTAA
Arkansas Student Congress is a competitive event sponsored by ACTAA (Arkansas Communication and Theater Arts Association) in which high school teams (delegations) from across Arkansas participate in congressional debate at the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock. Students involved in Arkansas Student Congress follow the procedures of our Senators and Representatives. They write legislation, work in committees, and debate their own bills and resolutions. Prior to the actual 3-day competition, students submit their own bills which they hope will be debated and passed on the floor during competition. Submitted bills are compiled and distributed prior to the competition to each participating team, allowing them to research as many topics possible with the goal of speaking on both sides of every legislation.
Delegates are judged on their work in committees, Parliamentary Procedure, and speaking abilities. Speeches are judged, participation is observed, and points are accumulated for both individual and team awards.
